| - I have been a "customer" of bagel cafe for many years. The word customer is in quotes because I never feel like a customer, but rather a burden to everyone. I always get orders to go, and the guys behind the counter simply aren't friendly, and the girls at the cashier are equally drab and uninviting.
Funny thing about Jewish deli's....it's the one type of restaurant that I'm willing to tolerate attitude from the servers and staff, that sort of New York attitude where they might seem to be rude but really aren't, it's just their style. And the reason most tolerate it also is because the food is so good it doesn't matter.
However, this isn't the case here. The staff has a terrible unfriendly attitude, and guess what...the food is NOT in fact good enough to justify it. This is no Nate n Al's, or Brent's, two outstanding LA favorites. This place is marginal at best, and it's amazing to me they are the only deli on the entire West side. Now, maybe Cantor's will change things, but from what I hear of their prices, probably not.
So for now I remain a sad deli fan, sad that the only semi reasonably priced deli anywhere near me treats me like an unwelcome stranger, and in exchange I get food that the people in LA, not to mention NYC, would laugh at.
