| - The Welcome Diner was a difficult place to write a review about and you'll see why in a second. In order to capture my whole experience here, I'll interview myself (not at great detail or this post will be too long). Here it goes: WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT THE APPEARANCE OF THIS PLACE? When we pulled up to the restaurant at 9:00pm on Tuesday night, I was somewhat perplexed. There were about 20 people in the "patio," which was comprised of various picnic tables, patio furniture, and what appeared to be a bar table that sat atop the fence that enclosed half the perimeter of the dining area. There was an eclectic mix of people. I noticed people of all ages and walks of life. Included in the mixture were some nurses, kids that looked like they were on probation (one of which was spitting tobacco), and one guy who kept alluding to his belief that he made his living doing stand-up comedy. As I started parking my rental car, I noticed this place is in the middle of a somewhat shady neighborhood. Not too comforting when I had to park a block away and walk past a house with a man smoking some substance on his porch. HOW WAS THE FOOD? The food was awesome! We ordered the Fish Po' Boy, the mac and cheese with chorizo, and the beignets. The sandwich was perfect. The whitefish was grilled nicely and the slaw was great. The mac and cheese was fantastic. I couldn't stop eating it. And the beignets? Those were a good end to a delicious meal. WOULD YOU GO BACK? Well, given the nature of the location and layout of the restaurant, I would typically say no. But the food was so good, I am interested in trying everything else on the menu. I guarantee we will come back. Specifically to try the poutine fries and the Champion burger. And the biscuit sandwiches. And sausage gravy. I would ask more questions of myself but I think I'd end up writing too much about food on the menu I didn't get an opportunity to eat...
