Owner Rick is a Prick
Hilton Garden Inn is my Hotel of Choice I really enjoy their made to order breakfast and their comfortable rooms. On 11/6/15 I was booked at this Hilton Garden Inn and was treated fairly well as is the hospitality at all Hilton Garden Inns. I had a team of 5 which meant 5 rooms were booked and a conference room. From the conference room my team and I were preparing for an event in a nearby town where we were going to have to assemble some wagons and give away some premiums that were packaged in plastic baggies. In an effort to condense our load and prepare for our upcoming event I was instructed to break down boxes and build wagons. The Marketing company I work for does mobile touring which basically is events for brands all over the US and we all live in Hotels for Months at a time. We tend to try and make the hotels as much as home as possible which means we work out of them. I doubt most people that stay in hotels more than they stay at their own homes are any different. If we need to rent conference rooms to do work, we tend to but a lot of our work does happen in the parking lots of the hotels we stay at in that it's our only feasible workspace for our assets. This day was just like any other we had onlookers and people asking what we were doing. Usually when people ask we explain and give a premium or two to make everyone excited about our brand and our presence.
(So let me set the stage) We were in a Box Truck working on a dirt Lot located directly in front of the Hotel we had 10 bright red wagons perfectly lined up in two rows with 5 wagons per row. Each wagon had a perfect count of 100 stuffed animals in messenger bags just waiting for the excitement of children. A mountain of neatly stacked boxes located directly behind the box truck. A pallet with signs sitting on it leaned slightly on the driver side of the box truck. My Partner was in the Box truck handing me boxes and taking the plastic pieces I was removing and putting them in a box. I was removing the plastic bags that were on the stuffed animals with warnings that the plastic could be a choking hazard.
Enter RICK and his rich friend (cause a guy like Rick I doubt hangs out with peasants like me). Rick was inquiring and I told Rick what we do and that we were getting ready for an event and that numerous amounts of children would be so happy after they received the stuffed animals. Rick proceeds to let me know that he owns the Lot that I am working on. I immediately apologize and state that I thought the Hotel owned the Lot and Rick Immediately lets me know that he owns the hotel and proceeds to let me know that he owns the strip mall. At that point I'm Like "Ok" and he then asks how long we will be there and I let him know we will be done in a few hours. He then decides to tell me how people like me are always screwing him and making myself at home. I say "We are guests at the hotel isn't that the point" and he states "Absolutely not and don't even think about throwing your trash in my dumpster". I tell him that we have a conference room and that I've never had an issue with trash before but that I would remove the boxes and take them somewhere else. He then proceeded to tell his friend "Can you believe these people" then I got a little upset and said "What's your problem" he then said "I'm tired of paying for you people to dump your trash and treat these places like your house" I said "you must of missed that we are paying to be here were not doing this for free" by that time a manager or someone from the hotel had come into the tail end of the conversation and stood there in disbelief or shock because he failed to say anything and just let the back and forth go. At that point Rick proceeds to state that we needed to leave and I turned and continued to unwrap my stuffed animals and I gave him a look that basically said "make me" and he comes at me again "get out of here and take your boxes with you I'm not dumping them" Now after Rick decided to walk away with his rich friend, the Manager walked away with him and came back to me to ask what had happened. By this time, I had called my Boss who had booked the rooms and told him what had happened. Turns out my boss had received permission to be there and the hotel apologized for Rick. I asked the manager what the name of the owner was and he was the one who told me "RICK" I asked for his last name so that I can call Hilton and file a complaint and he stated that he could not give out his information but that he could give me his own name if I wanted to complain. I told him that my complaint isn't with him and that I wanted to let Hilton know about the Owner. Rick Doesn't have a last name because that information is confidential. No matter, Rick is enough for everyone to know about the Owner of all things near the North Phoenix Hilton Garden Inn including the Hotel. Guess what Rick I'm sure I'm going to get your attention now.
