| - I honestly don't see how you can rate a mountain, but if you did, how do you decide which mountain is inferior?!
I think I got defensive and feisty when I saw that Lone Mountain had less than a perfect rating.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a perfect little mountain!
I'm not an avid hiker, climber or anything at all of that sort.
But I show up here 3-4 times a week, before sunrise, if I can help it, to avoid sun pounding on me.
I start out on east side of the mountain, parked by the kids playground, then make my way halfway around and start climbing up the beaten path on the West side.
The climb is easy-ish so long as you are familiar with all the slippery gravel and it's not too hot outside.
It's much harder once the sun starts beating down.
There's also more than one way up. I actually prefer a much steeper and shorter path little more south, but I came up on a coyote den there a few months back and while the babies were super cute and very curious, I didn't want to stress out mums. I need to read up on coyote habits, but I imagine in a few months the fam will move on and I will be able to resume the hike up my favorite trail. In the mean time, I just go with the flow.
There's a memorial cross just below the summit marker for a man named Chad David England, who passed, too young, in a motorcycle accident. I like to do a small nod to him when I'm up there.
Since it's really just a small mountain, reception up there is excellent, so I can also glance at a few quick work emails, while catching my breath.
You'll get a pretty cool work out and amazing views from up there.
Just one ask, dog people, why in the world would you leave your dog's poop along the trail up there, tied up in little baggies?! Not everybody, of course, but you know who you are! Your mom doesn't work here! Clean up after yourselves or don't bring your pooping wonder along if you can't handle carrying the poo back down to the trash can. Rude.
