| - We were here for a late lunch today with some family from out of town. In general I enjoy the Old Fashioned, although it's often too long of a wait - no reservations! It's good, but not that good. For me it's a good place to bring visitors, or good to stop in if you're walking by and there happens to not really be a wait. For me, it's too crowded and too loud to make it a regular go to.
But...their food is really good. You'll absolutely not get a light lunch here, but you're going to love the cheese curds. Today I went with the Spicy Burger and fries. I sure liked it a lot, although the bun was not quite the right fit. It kept doing that annoying thing when it just slides off the burger every single time you try to pick it up. And then you make a huge mess. But it was delicious! And I love their Bloody Mary - for sure one of the better ones in Madison.
So I'm vacillating between 3 and 4 stars. While I was there I was leaning towards 3, but now I'm thinking 4. Despite the yummy food and drinks, it was loud, crowded, and the service was surprisingly lacking. But now I'm remembering the burger and going with 4 stars. So yes it was very busy in there today, but the service was lackluster. For example, it took forever (20+min) for a waitress to stop by our table (they all thought someone else was our server). We were brought the wrong food, and we had to ask for silverware after getting our meals.
I'm sure I'll be back at some point. The Old Fashioned is good, but a tad overrated.
