| - This place is very disorganized and the vibe was way off -- like it felt pretty shady. Let me go into some detail...
I had an 8am appointment, which I showed up on time for, but they weren't even there. They finally arrived at about 8:15am.
While I was sitting in the lobby, I could overhear the main dentist (who I assume is the owner) talking with one of his employees about money issues (something about missing money--not sure what the full details were, but it was weird overhearing parts of that conversation). I was not even trying to snoop, it was literally just there in the air.
I got taken back to get my X-rays and the technician lady was doing them backward for some reason. The main dentist came over and told her she was doing them wrong and critiqued her work a few times right in front of me throughout my time there. It didn't feel very professional.
One of the computer peripherals that worked with the X-ray machine was damaged (they had dropped it the day before and cracked part of the imaging plate), and my X-rays came back showing that I had a huge crack in my back tooth. Mind you, I didn't know anything about the equipment damage at first... I was told about my tooth first after taking the X-rays and I'm like "Um... that doesn't sound right... I have no pain there, haven't noticed anything weird there..." and they finally admitted it was their equipment. My tooth is fine.
The main dentist wanted to talk about politics with me after he saw some recent coverage on the lobby's TV. Other than eloquently calling our current election cycle a "Massive Shit Show" and comparing it to that masterful (and prophetic) South Park episode "Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich," I didn't have much else I wanted to contribute.
During the analysis of my X-rays and initial mouth assessment, they said I need to have three of my previously filled cavities re-drilled and refilled and that I have two other cavities that did not even show up on any of my X-rays. They also said they need to use a laser to cut away a bit of bad gumline and also do a deep cleaning of the teeth and gums. I got that feeling like it was just one big upsell... get them in on a Groupon, then add on a bunch of high priced stuff.
They use this little water jet teeth cleaning tool, which is great in theory (gentler than scraping your teeth with a metal dental pick), but the water was pretty cold... and my teeth really HATE cold. So I asked for them to do it with warmer water and was told they can't do that. So I had to undergo that dental scraping tool instead. Like really... how hard is it to warm up water and make it comfortable for patients? They had the AC on pretty high in that office, so that is why the "room temp" water in the tool's basin was so cold.
At the very end, the money lady comes over and hands me a tally of all these "recommended services" and it was like $1,650.00 or so... I'm like "Are you serious?!" I tore it up and left that in their bathroom trashcan.
Overall, this place gave me an uncomfortable vibe... I will go elsewhere next time and will get my X-rays redone so I can get a clear second opinion.
