  • My boyfriend and I adopted a little French Bulldog named Cash last year when his elderly owner died. Cash was diagnosed with mast cell cancer within a month of coming to live with us! Devastating news for a new fur-mama!!! Cash had two different surgeries and the pathology reports came back showing the tumors were only Grade 1 but Cash's tumors were in locations that typically are more malignant (his muzzle and scrotum). His regular vet referred us to meet with a canine oncologist just to discuss our options. We met with Dr. Claudia McFadden at CVS and adored her from the first moment she walked in. I was sitting on the floor of the exam room with Cash crying and petting him and so worried and sad and Dr. McFadden walked in and plopped down on the floor beside me and began to pet Cash and talk to him and talk to me. She calmed me down SO MUCH with her gentle and confident demeanor. I did NOT feel pressured at all to go ahead with the chemotherapy- Dr. McFadden did not try to sell us on it. She gave us a clear picture of the benefits and drawbacks, the front desk was concise and honest about pricing, and they sent us on our way. We decided to go ahead and do the 12-week chemotherapy protocol to give Cash the best chance at a long life with us. Dr. McFadden and Stacy and ALL of her techs and the front desk staff have been so sweet and helpful to us throughout Cash's chemotherapy. He has had one new tumor since the chemotherapy finished and Dr. McFadden recommended we have it removed but said she did not need to do the surgery because the location of the tumor didn't require a specialist. She said I could save some money but still do right by Cash if his regular vet did the surgery. I completely disagree with people saying CVS is "greedy". I have never felt nickled and dimed or pressured into pricey purchases/surgeries. Cash will get other random bumps or I may have a question about a cancer supplement or his food and I will email Dr. McFadden and she ALWAYS responds. I don't know any other vets or specialists who take the time to read emails at night or on their days off and respond with advice. She actually researched a supplement I had heard about for me on her off day and gave me the go-ahead to begin feeding it ONLY AFTER she had researched it. CVS allows you to drop your pet off in the morning and pick them up after work if you are unable to miss work for a vet appointment. They are thoughtful and kind. Cash LOVES going to see his friends at CVS. He literally runs to the front door and sits there wagging his little nub and then RUNS in the door and hugs and kisses all of the people at the desk. The fact that my dog LOVES going to the oncologist - a place where he has had many needle aspirates done, had 12 weeks of chemotherapy, and been generally poked and prodded - tells me all I need to know about the care they are giving him. Typical of me to be WAY too wordy but the bottom line is: Carolina Vet Specialists and Dr. Claudia McFadden are amazing!!!
