  • I can't say that I agree more with the other reviews on this site about the Soho Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto. So it would seem odd to say that I dont plan to ever stay here again if I go to Toronto (which I will). Yes, the rooms are nice. They are large, well layed out, heated bathroom floors georgeous, etcetera ... even in spite of ending up on the lower floors with a beautiful view over a hulking great car park; but I have to say I was exceedingly put off, both by the receptionist's handling of my arrival, and the follow up events, namely the arrival of my partner, and the lack of any further response form the chain in regard to feedback and comments made to social media accounts. Given that there are so many similar hotels in good locations in Toronto, they have stiff competition, so I am as surprised as you might be to hear that they made me feel like a criminal on arrival, after a 12 hour trip from London, UK, and despite having a print-out of my wife's confirmation email. Who would have thought I flew all the way from London (UK) to crash a stinking hotel booking? After they unceremoniously dumped me into a new room under a new booking at ~CAD$300 per night, when my partner arrived some 5 hours later, after midnight, they let her into my room without even ringing up to check to see if that would be fine. So much for their security! After making complaints via their feedback forms, they didnt even have the courtesy to respond. Meanwhile, responses to their social media account, might as well come from an outer space. When it comes to customer service, I was most certainly left wanting ... I am sure they could have easily rectified any or all of this debacle, should they have been bothered to try, but at this point, when I come back to Toronto, I will simply check into any one of the following: Thompson, Gladstone, Drake, Le Germain, Ivy, Ocho, Cosmopolitan, Templar. For one they are all further west and closer to many of the restaurants I love, and wish to try in future. That being said, if Wayne Gretzsky is your thing, then his resto is right around the corner on Blue Jay way.
