Eh... Could be better given the location/demographic.
We were seated (second couple to arrive...in a party of 5 table). We are on the patio, which was fairly full..but not at capacity.
One member of our party orders a flight of beers to try that are "house beers" one of which was terribly "skunky" I dont remember/know which one it was. We asked our server and she guessed it was a "ghost" beer (the name of one of the house beers...not an actual haunted beer). So we asked for one of the lighter ones that was more palatable to our tastebuds (which varies person to person obvs). She brings back... the skunky beer. Now in a full pint. Not wanting to seem rude...we begin to choke it down. Asking our server again about it....trying to see if she put in the right order and she actually says "I dont know what kind they are or what one that is".
Alright... at this point the place is now seeming...less then ready to be opened.
Okay. Order another round of drinks... being very clear we dont want the skunky beer (again...a personal preference...but serve staff should try to get what a person ordered correct)
So we order a meat board and cheese board. The cheeses are all tasty. None of them overly dramatic in flavour though. Which may be hit and miss (miss to real cheese enthusiasts...hit to people who only dally in cheesedom). But you should pick your clientele and go with it. (Ie. Are you trying to be more upscale or more in the way of Moxies/chain-type).
Meat board...this menu option gives you the opportunity to pick from several meat selections. We again refer to our server for choices...what do you recommend? Her reply "they are all good!" And roughly reads the menu to see what we were referring to. (Aka... she didn't know...so she said all. Which is fine...but anybody who tries multiple items would be able to rank based on personal prefernce. Seemed under prepared).
Our 5th member of the party who had been running late shows up. There is no 5th chair at pur table so we ask the server for a chair. She departs...and after a bit... we ask another table for their extra chair because one did not seem to be coming. She does return to take an order though. Perhaps she forgot?
I order the vanilla soft serve ice cream with toffee and peanut. Its soft serve. Tastey. Very sweet.
I asked for the washroom...I was instructed to go upstairs....but I eyed another server using the downstairs handicapped one... and opted for that. Our server then said "oh! I didnt even know that was there!" (What if I was severely handicapped?!)
Anyway. All in all... for a King West restaurant... it can do better/has the potential.
As it stands...it seems better suited for groups that are looking for a 'chain style restaurant that seems cooler because its downtown' type of place.
