  • Ok I've been in and out of this hospital countless times since 2015. I have lupus and it's caused me crazy issues and I know many many staff there. Lots of them know me by name and face, it's truly crazy but it just goes to show how much I've been there and how many tests were done on me including surgery! Ok so where do I start... let's talk about food - the admitting doctor will give you a kind of diet and depending on that diet you may have some food restrictions. You are given a paper menu which isn't too helpful with a lot of the restrictions but when you call in your order the nice phone people will help you with what you can order and eat. This hospital has room service, all you gotta do is call and give them your order and the time you want it and it will be delivered to your room around that time. They don't really restrict how much you order and you can also order snacks in between your meals. The nurses also can bring you some drinks (juices and some soda) and they also have some pudding, sandwiches, ice cream and popsicles on each floor if you don't want to wait on the line for the kitchen order takers. Ok so I've been to ICU, MICU (usually after surgery and recovery), 3rd floor north and central, 4th floor central, 5th floor north and central. Sooooo if you land on the 3rd floor central, try and switch to north or somewhere else. The staff there are overworked and just not the coolest. Many times they are short people. Same goes for 5 north. Oncology use to be 4 central but they moved to 5 south this year. I love those nurses as I had spent probably 7-9 months with them. I don't have chemo anymore so it's harder for me to land over there even after requesting to move. I recently was in 5 central and I must say, they have gotten a lot better with team work and patient care. Their charge nurses always came into my room, asking if everything was alright and who did an excellent job taking care of me. On the top of my head I can say that Jannine, Vineia, Lawren, and a few others were just great! Gay, Edna, Jannine are great charge nurses as well. Oh and Melissa. There's been lots of changes to the drug laws and within the hospital with personnel changes so lots have been changing. There's like new rules going on every week. I know most of the special procedures team and they got a new extra big and organized room now with huge screens. The X-ray, Mri guys are great, say HI to Jen in ultrasound! Leslie and Truman are cool too. Transport guys are really dope, Cedric is a speedster (just an fyi) but he's funny and nice and gets the job done. He's always telling me to stay out of the hospital. Jeffrey's really nice too, along with Josh and Mike. The ER can get real crazy at times where the wait for a room is loooooong. I think I waited 22 hours one time for a room upstairs after getting admitted. The soonest I've ever gotten a room was probably 4 hours. So just be aware that you could be waiting a while. I always pack a phone charger and some food with me bcs the ER only has sandwiches, pudding, jello and some drinks and that's only if the doctor says it's ok for you to eat. The ER rules have changed too, they seem to not be giving IV pain meds there, saying there's a "shortage". Complete junk if you ask me since once you are admitted, you can get some. Oh the lab people are awesome, I almost forgot them. My veins are tiny now because they've been overused so it's hard for the lab and some nurses to get an IV going on me. They are always patient and gentle with me, which I appreciate. I always see them when I go to the ER. My favorite surgeon is Dr Chung, he's operated on me about 9 times in the last 3 years so I trust him and he's also saved my life more than once. And lastly the amenities carts. There's two carts that volunteers will bring by. Since it's based on when volunteers are there, there's really no set day and time they come by. One cart is just newspapers and magazines. The other cart is the one you want! They have: Coloring books Colored pencils and sharpeners Crayons Playing cards Nail cutter and file Ear plugs Back scratcher Stress balls Chapsticks Combs Hair ties And a bunch of other stuff I like this hospital and the staff. They are expanding so there's been a ton of noise in certain areas. They are also close to where I live so that's always a bonus.
