| - I found Mike to be unprofessional, uncompromising, and incompetent. A few years ago I hired him to put in a palapa in my backyard. It only lasted about three years until rotting brought it down. If he installs these things with any regularity, he would know that the way he pours the concrete, and his insufficiently treated lumber allows for water to pool at the base of the concrete, and eventually soak into the pole and rot it through. My assertion is he either knows this or should know this.
So I call him out to see it, and he admitted they should last around 10 years. But rather than replacing it, and installing it properly, he offered to sell me a new one for over $1,000. I told him that was unacceptable, and asked that he at least take the palapa away- he wouldn't even do that.
In summary, Mike did a poor job with the installation- maybe even intentionally so, he did not stand behind his work, he did not work with me on a solution, and he did not accept responsibility. If he handles his other work like he handled my palapa, I would think twice before hiring him. There are too many professionals out there to have to choose him.
