| - Hello, and welcome to Hearthstone Kitchen &Cellar. This was our first stop for restaurant week 2017. #helpoutdineout. We hit up 4 this year and I have reviewed them in reverse order. We had reservations through open table and arrived early. We were seated immediately and drink orders were taken. The first thing I noticed is how loud this place is. we were seated not far from the bar and close to a couple group tables. Hearthstone is a Clique Entertainment group facility they have Baracha and Botigla in GVR. We are a fan of their product so Hearthstone seemed like a natural choice. Plus it's in a local casino not on the strip which is a plus.
We received both the regular and the restaurant week menus and took a gander at both. We decided on restaurant week menu as it gave a great sampling and helps out local charity.
First course, Chef's Meat and Cheese Board and crispy calamari.. We also ordered a Cheesy bread off the Happy Hour menu. So, this is where the meal takes a left turn. I start to notice that other meals start to come out at the tables seated around us but after us. I stay silent (for a change) and just wait. Every time waitress comes by she says it should only be a few more minutes. The meat and cheese area where they make stuff is visible and we can see what is coming out. Not our stuff. The cheesy bread was good, but I am ready to order a second beer and on a 3rd water. Finally our Calamari comes out and the Meet & Cheese Board. I am on my 2nd bite of Calamari and my main dish shows up. More on the mains in a moment. I must have had a look of confusion on my face because the manager comes by and asks if all was okay. I stated that the timing of the kitchen is off because our apps and main dishes just arrived almost at same time. So something is going to get either warm or cold while I eat the other. She stated that she would talk to kitchen and take care of our drinks for the night and our apps. Since its restaurant week apps are part of the all inclusive, so that is not an option. However, drinks were taken care of and the one off menu item we had was deducted. Good recovery. we heard from others that this is an on going issue.
Back to the food. Since it is a Clique facility we had High expectations. Was not disappointed. The apps were Calamari and Meat and Cheese board. Calamari was seasoned and cooked well just as it is at Botiglia. Meat and cheese board, Excellent slices of meat and fresh cheeses. They use Cabot Sharp cheddar which is one of my favorites. Has a nice sharp bite and is a white cheddar which as we all know the natural way to have cheese. Board also contained a couple different salamis and one other cheese, not positive what that was at this time.
Very soon after came our main dishes. I had the Prime Flat Iron Steak, Josie had Shrimp and Grits. Botigla once offered the flat iron but had removed it before I had the honor of trying it, so I was elated to find this on the restaurant week menu. Served with an earthy peppercorn sauce. Cooked medium rare as requested. Slicing through was like butter and it was melt in your mouth delicious. Served with a side of mashed potatoes that are really nondescript. Josie's shrimp and grits were equally enjoyable. Shrimp cooked perfectly and a slight spice added for taste and a good bite. Grits were pleasantly cooked and creamy. Overall, despite the timing of the two first courses the meal took shape flavor wise.
Desert, we ordered the Nutella pizza. It's simple, Nutella on crisp pizza dough. If any one of the chefs are reading this; a nice banana or strawberry would go great on top of this. It was good and rich but needed a sweet fruit component added to the top. We stated that to the waitress and she added that many people have said the same thing. Maybe the customer is right.
Thank you for Dining at Hearthstone kitchen and Cellar. After a rough start they recovered well. I must add if you use the Yelp app there is a free glass of house wine. Our drinks and one app were all covered after the timing thing, so customer satisfaction is definitely paramount.
We will probably go again and try some different fare on the menu. We are fans of the Clique group so most likely will happen. If you are in Red Rock Station and want a good meal before or after a show or bowling the food is good and the beer is great and has some local stuff on tap.
