  • At last, a restaurant has managed to stick in this location, one that was formerly the home of Tambellini's for decades until it changed owners several times within as many years. I'm going to concur with milady Kay and give Misaki a 3 as well. For $25 a body, I expected to find every single thing I ate superlative, and that didn't happen for me. The most memorable part of my meal was the supple, close-to-rare, almost sweet prime rib of all things. All too often, prime rib dries out at buffets, but this chunk of beef held all of its moisture and had gobs of fatty flavor to spare. In case you were scratching your head over my mention of the prime rib, Misaki offers all things for all tastes. Hot Chinese and Japanese fare can be had along with fresh fruit, raw mollusks, sushi, crab legs, various desserts, salads, and even french fries and pizza. The raw oysters failed to entice me much, but I tried them and was unimpressed with their nothing flavor. The sushi was simply mediocre to boot. The lobster tails were lacking in meat as were the claws and what meat there was came out mushy. I tried a whole slew of dumplings and buns and none of them rose above the horde. It wasn't looking rosy... This was the proverbial 57 channels, and little was on, except for that stir-fry station and few other nuggets. I loaded up the noodles, veggies, chicken, beef, shrimp, salmon, and scallops high on the plate, man and watched the cook deftly frizzle it all together on a flat-top griddle. And of course I drizzled that Japanese mayonnaise I can't recall the proper name of over everything. Had I stuck to that, the plump, ideally ripened, nicely presented fruit (those grapes were humongous!), and the prime rib, Misaki would wring a 4 out of 5 from me. Alas, gorging oneself on so much average food will jade a man. To my amusement, the Italian motif was still in effect. They even retained the roaring fireplace! My amusement was furthered by taking in the surprisingly diverse crowd. I thought we had driven through a wormhole that took us to LoLa or... Southern California? Hipsters, punk-rawkers, hip-hop heads, immigrants, old folks, the MOR army, and children all dined together without friction, hurrying to and from the spacious, spic-n-span buffet as recent top 40 hits could scarcely be heard amidst the chatty atmosphere. What else does Misaki have going for it? Well, they kept the big parking lot that's free to use, and if that fills up after hours, you can always park in the Red White & Blue Thrift Store's lot (funny how it sits next to this place). Unfortunately, our server was slow to replenish beverages and to take away plates. Doom on that. But, it's all you can eat, bro! Speaking of which, the bro's were here as well, bro-ing it up as they say, still in St. Patrick's Day garb and spirit. Will I come back? Slash the price in half, and I'll consider it, halfway that is. It's not as if I've ever been nutters over buffets to begin with. Eh, at least the ghost of Tambellini's has been exorcised forever.
