This was a birthday present for my husband. We had taken a similar 'haunted history' tour of New Orleans back in 2000/2001 and really enjoyed it, so I thought this would be fun. The Phoenix tour guides were inexperienced and were not knowledgeable -- even of the places we passed. The few 'facts' or stories they told were read from their notes.I will give that Phoenix may not have as rich a history as New Orleans - but after our meeting at Hotel San Carlos and hearing its story, we walked about a mile and a half to the downtown prison and heard a story about some fugitives from 10 yrs ago (which as natives, we knew these stories well already). It's a PRISON. That's where we keep the murderers. Does that make it "haunted"? My husband and I caught a few inconsistencies in their stories, and at one point we were told - "See that building there? I don't know what it is, but you can tell from the building behind it that it is very old!" I just did a quick search and found it to be the J.M. Walker building from 1920. We then walked several blocks to the light rail park and were told a story about how Phoenix commissioned an artist $3 million to display what people consider an "upside down UFO". The guides then told about the Phoenix Lights (one tour guide said there were 3 lights and it happened "sometime in the vicinity of 1995 to 1998", the other claimed there were 5 lights). They then mentioned movies about UFO sightings and encounters in AZ, but they couldn't remember the movie titles. My husband and I decided at that point our time would be better spent in the bar on the next block than listen to any more of their stories. The best part of our evening was when we decided to cut our losses and have a drink. You are better off getting one of the books about the history and hauntings of Phoenix and walking it yourself.
