I started going here a couple years ago but ended up quitting my membership when the half-finished bouldering area showed no progress after 4 months. Flash forward a few years and the freestanding boulder is done. There's still a blank wall on the structure, and I thought they would've built it higher or at least made it a top-out boulder, but oh well. It beats the hell out of bouldering on the roped walls. I go to NCC because it is an extremely mellow place. It's like climbing in your buddy's garage. The owners and other climbers are super friendly and helpful. The problems are interesting with a wide range of ratings. The slackline provides some downtime hi jinx when forearms are dead. Evenings when the dogs are roaming the gym take some getting used to (I would never in good conscience allow my dogs to comfortably hang out on a crash pad--seems like training them to be in an unsafe spot where they could be hurt or potentially hurt the climbers on a jump or possible fall), but they are really friendly and definitely add to the chill vibe. I'm sure it's not an issue; it's just something that I've seen a few times and never really felt comfortable with. But don't let that dissuade you from checking them out. I think beginners would love this place because of the mellow, non-elitist mood NCC exudes. And experienced climbers will find enough to keep them entertained and challenged until we can start going outside again. Overall, this place is just right if you're into pulling in a relaxed, no-pressure zone.
**Construction and closures on Patrick and McCleod makes this place harder to find than it used to be, so be wary.
