  • First, I love Shaved Snow. If you ever dare to call good shaved snow "shaved ice," I'd slap some sense into you and make you understand the differences. They are NOT the same. --- Background: I've had shaved snow throughout SoCal, from the very good to the "mehh": Class 302, Blockheads Shavery, Tasty To Go, PaPa Walk, random mall stands/boba shops, Fluff Ice, Chilly Ribbons. --- Texture: Good/Great. Shaved like a good shaved snow where you can see the thin layers of snow. --- Taste/Flavors: They have a good selection of flavors. I wish I could've tried more. The worker said the top flavors were: Mango, Green Tea, and Vanilla. I tried Black Sesame (because I've only ever seen it at Blockheads) and Vanilla (after asking if it had taste and he said yes, it's really good). The Black Sesame had a distinct black sesame flavor and it is pretty good. However, having experienced Blockheads Shavery's B.S. flavor, I would prefer Blockheads. It's flavor is more unique and I think a bit stronger. Also, the black sesame snow here did not shave as perfectly compared to the texture of that at Blockheads. The Vanilla. I'm used to places having "Original/Milk" flavor. Some, like Class 302's, are amazing. Blockheads' Original has no taste, in my opinion. When I asked, the worker said that they use actual vanilla. No lie. The shavings of the vanilla were perfect. The taste was like eating vanilla bean ice cream, but in a shaved snow form. I can see myself liking this, but I wasn't in the mood for vanilla bean ice cream at that moment so it was just alright. But I can certainly see the appeal, and the flavor is indeed strong. --- Price/Portions: They have three sizes: Small, Large, Monster I don't remember the prices exactly, but they were under $4, under $5, and under $7, respectively. Cheaper than what I am used to back in SoCal so that was a pleasant surprise. Not only that, but the portions were very generous. Either that, or I just wasn't hungry after lunch. I do think they are quite big though. Toppings are $.60 each, same as Blockheads, so it's on par. A drizzle/condensed milk is free, so that's standard as well. --- Ambience: I went with family on a weekday after lunch. It was over 100 degrees. There was only two other guys hanging out inside. It was really quiet. The plaza itself also seemed quiet. There is construction going on on Snowflake's side of the Plaza, which isn't exactly pretty, but the businesses are all open. Inside the store itself, seems like it's a pretty quiet place most of the time. The place isn't very decorated, it's kinda bare. There is a definition of "shaved snow" plastered onto one wall (something about if shaved ice and ice cream got married and had a baby), which is basically the only decoration in the place. I didn't get the same vibe I have when I'm at Blockheads or even at Fluff Ice (whose shaved "snow" I don't particularly like), where it seems more friendly and fun and a color theme. Of course, none of this is important to the snow itself. I just wouldn't really sit in to eat at Snowflake (although it's tiny inside anyways) --- Conclusion: I don't know what other shaved snow places exist in/near Las Vegas, but I think this would be hard to beat. If I randomly moved to LV, I think I'd be satisfied having Snowflake Shavery nearby. Unless Blockheads or Class 302 decided to pop up there lol.
