| - Here's the DL. Rented executive elite (with free day coupon readily available with most google searches, total was $88 for 3 days, not to shabby eh?). Strangely, the total came down as my travel date was closer so I canceled my earlier reservation, then re-booked at the cheaper rate 3 days before my trip. So check first right before your trip- it may actually cost less! Out of paranoia I checked the price for a 8 PAX SUV- it was around $250, and even more as the date got closer. Although I needed an SUV, I chanced the elite reservation, hoping Id get an SUV.
At baggage claim, head through door 10, go across the street, catch the bus to all of the car rentals. Make a left, head up the escalators; emerald will be on your left, exec on the right.
I arrived at national at 8:30 AM and guess what- no 8 PAX SUV in sight in emerald or exec. Lots of 5 PAX SUVs though in emerald, and one crappy jeep in exec. In fact, the lot for elite was almost empty! (see pics) I asked if they might have something to fit 8 people in exec, but to my despair, nope. However, they did give me the option of upgrading my reservation and offered me a full size suv for only $30 per day more. My total came out to $206 ($44 cheaper than a regular reservation) and got me a nice ford flex. They had a lot of other stuff too at the alamo full size suv which is where I got to pick my car from. Long story short, it was cheaper in the long run, so hey Im happy!. Review are correct though, try to build in some extra time to return your car and catch the shuttle back to the airport.
I was pretty happy with my car and price. I asked the checkout lady if there were ever any 8 PAX SUV in exec or emerald, and she said VERY rarely. So good luck to y'all!
