Check engine light came on this morning on the drive to work. Greulich's is down the street from my job so I stopped in at lunch and asked the mechanic to read the code for me. He said it would cost $118.
If you are not familiar on how to scan the check engine light codes, I'll inform you. Under the steering wheel there is a port that a scan tool plugs into just like you would plug in a toaster. Plug in scan tool. Start the car (keep in park). The hand held computer scans the car's computer for the fault that is triggering the check engine light to illuminate. The fault is displayed as a code. Look up the code in a book or online to see whats wrong with the car. Takes about 45 seconds to generate a code and consumes no resources.
$118.
The scan tool itself costs about $80.
I dont want to say rip off, it's more like robbery. I laughed in the mechanics face and walked out.
