| - Our first impression of this hotel was clean, neat, and convenient for the convention center. As our three night stay progressed, things changed!
The rooms were cheaply "updated". I do mean cheaply. I have seen comparable hotels use much higher quality materials to update their older buildings with success. These buildings are clearly old. While in our rooms, our 9 person party often herd through the thin walls. The creaky floors were evident as we often herd neighbors walking around in the middle of the night. The pool was very dirty, with guests often drinking out of glass bottles IN the pool area!!! The staff did not enforce any concerns around this dangerous practice. The free breakfast was just ok. Average for a middle rate hotel chain. nothing to rave about at all... Just food to consume before you head out.
The last straw for this review, was AFTER we left.... My wife and I had forgotten her very expensive curling iron in the freezer (a helpful tactic to quickly cool of a hot iron to pack in a suitcase). I called the hotel the next day to inquire about getting the item shipped back (hotels frequently do this for a $10-$15 fee). I called, and had a completely different experience with this hotel. I was transferred to housekeeping, as I expected. Then a lady that spoke very little English said they would ship it back to me, after I provided my credit card number. I said that was fine. I asked how much it would cost. She refused to answer the question and just repeated herself that they would ship the item to me once she had my credit card number. I asked again, how much was I going to be charged? She said she didn't know, and she needed my card number now, in order to ship the item. Of course red flags are now going off. After politely asking her to provide the shipping rate, she became irritated that I was asking about how much it would cost, and kept asking for my card information. Needless to say, the conversation ended, I am now buying a new curling iron. This was my first experience on a Marriott property in a long time (I didn't choose the hotel for this trip). I will never stay at a Marriott property again. I will stick to the Hilton chain.
