| - Staff is nice, friendly and helpful. Nice location (if you do not have to drive on 77 to work each day), safe, close to shops at Birkdale. However, apartments are old and so are the insulation, AC etc. Like another reviewer our apartment had issues cooling the three summers we were there (Moved in June 2014 moved out Dec 2016). It seemed like the AC never stopped running.. even at night. Most recently, it didn't help that the maintenance staff was unable to figure out the issue until it was escalated several times to more senior staff. They would come as it was not cooling properly, and there would be a sheet of ice on the intake and they would change the filter, same thing would happen, they would add freon, same thing and they finally got the HVAC person to inspect and discovered a part had been broken the entire time, by the time they came to this conclusion it was weeks later.
We were on the third floor, 1000 sq ft (2 br) our power bill in the summer was $140. Be aware of the utilities cost (maybe call the power company and get a average cost for the year for that unit). Also after the first lease period they raised our rent by $119/mo. It went from $950 to $1069 (signed another 15 month lease). By the time we left we were spending $1400 total with rent, trash ($32 required), utilities ($25 water, gas, $100-150 power), pet fee ($15) and required cable ($84). If we had stayed they were going to raise another $40/mo I believe. That's a lot for an old apartment in Huntersville.
Also if you have a pet beware, the $325 is just the "privilege of having a pet" it doesn't cover any damages (per them it is covering cost of supplying poop bags/waste station and the "bark park". I am not sure what the 15/mo pet fee covers either. We received our final bill last night which included a $40 charge to repair a 1x1inch area of carpet (that is missing some fibers) where it meets the vinyl. I would have fixed it myself had I known they were going to charge me. Very petty and clearly nickel and diming us to the very end.
Update:
I just reviewed the pet addendum of the lease and the $325 is a fee not a deposit which makes it strictly administrative. It is a pet fee which "compensates the owner for the administrative costs for processing this application".. what a joke.
Additional update..the carpet could not be stretched and had to be patched. that's interesting as carpet at home depot is less than a dollar a square foot. Anyone could have patched that.. including myself.
