 | - I decided to take my daughter out for a "Greek" birthday luncheon.
This was our first visit to The Golden Greek and while I'm no expert in Greek cuisine, I have to admit our meal was very good to say the least.
A small "mom and pop" establishment which serves up some wonderful tasting dishes.
We started out with the humus appetizer served with wedges of pita bread. While the texture of the humus was not as thick as I'm used to, it was extremely tasty none the less. However the thinner texture, similar to the viscosity of apple sauce, does allow it to drip off if too heavily applied to the bread. And as fate would have it, the dripped humus will inevitably find its way to the front of your shirt or blouse as my daughter discovered the hard way. A word of warning to those who love lots of humus spread on pita bread, wear a bib or lighten up on the dose.
Not being well versed in Greek food we both decided to order the combination plate, which consisted of five different dishes, which would allow us to sample a variety. The combo plate consists of Domathes, Mousakas, Tiropita, Spanakopita and Gyro with Tzatki sauce.
Everything was tasty and portions generous, especially for lunch. I should also mention the plates include a Greek style salad which has a marvelous dressing with an adequate amount of feta cheese to boot.
Now moving on to the service. I wasn't bad or poor by any stretch of the imagination because she was friendly with a big smile however it could use some improvement. For example, our waitress only visited our table on four occasions, first to bring us the menus, second to take our order, third to serve our appetizer and lastly to serve our combination plates. Other than that she was absent and never revisited out table to inquire if we needed anything or if we needed refills. I know it's a relatively small incontinence but I thought I'd share it to explain my rating of 4 stars.
Overall I'd have to rate our visit as very good and we'll be back in the future when we're in the mood for some great Greek food.
