Steel Valley Roasters is bringing small-batch, flavorful coffee to Homestead. It's always beautiful to see a business that loves the neighborhood it is planted in. The decor is industrial and rugged, featuring art that pays homage to Homestead and its history as an immigrant community.
They travel the world to get the best coffee and make sure that farmers are paid fairly and treated well. Many of their coffee source farmers are women, first of their generation to control their income and destiny.
Coffee is roasted in a machine that looks like Willy Wonka made it. The batches are 1-2 pounds of beans at a time. If you listen, you might even hear the crackle of the beans being roasted.
The best part is the patience of the owners and employees in explaining how they select and process their product with love. Their passion comes off as artistic, not snobby. Give them a visit and have all your coffee questions answered.
