| - First a disclaimer. I am not giving this place 5 stars because the food is off the hook amazing. It is also not white tablecloth service and frankly it is just a casino coffee shop in a casino not known for glitz or glam. In fact, it is removed from The Strip and here you will definitely not see groomed hipsters inside, celebrity chef restaurant openings, or Maserati's stacked up at the curb.
What you will find is that Sam Boyd's California Hotel and casino has made a name for itself over the years catering to the people from the Hawaiian Islands whether they come over as tourists to spend money or those that have moved here and are now locals for jobs. This is a niche market that they cater to but they have done it very well. For that, it rings the bell and wins the prize.
The one thing that HI locals thrive on is food. Not fine dining cuisine but more like local comfort grindz. At the MSC, they are right at home and it shows. Walk in at any time and you will see many Hawaiians chowing down on stuff that seems out of place in the NV dessert. Ox Tail Soup with ginger and green onion, Saimin, Portuguese Sausage and Eggs, Miso Butter fish, etc. Most definitely Hawaiian style local grindz served here at very reasonable prices. On my latest visit, I'm staying on The Strip but drove over for the $6.25 Luau Breakfast Buffet (think all you can eat scrambled eggs, steam rice, portuguese sausage, bacon and corned beef hash along with some other less important things like breads, cereals, and fruit!) That is the deal of the day and they validate my parking ticket just for eating there! No can go wrong!
In a city that has become known for high-end dining with high-end prices to match, the Market Street Cafe is a great comforting Island style find in the middle of Las Vegas and a great deal all the way around.
