  • I was at the Yorkdale location today and I had brought my best friend and 5 year old daughter to shop for makeup as I always do I am a rouge member. I took my friend to the "Beauty Studio" area that I was directed to by one of the staff to try on the different products we were going to buy. We took two seats and started testing when my five year old walked off and in order to be able to continue what we were doing we let her take one of our seats and one of us stood up and we continued testing makeup. A Sephora employee walked to my daughter and told her to get up as she needs her seat for a client and I intervened and said no these two seats are for us two adults but we just let her sit momentarily so we can complete our makeup decision otherwise she would be running around the store and we cannot try on the makeup. I explained the seat was my friends seat and she needs it but we will be done soon. The Sephora lady shook her head in disagreement and went and brought the "manager" Jess who had bluish green hair but hid her name while she spoke to us. She said you need to get up and leave as this seat is only for "paying customers". I explained we are two adult ladies buying makeup and my five year old was only seated momentarily in my friends seat so we can complete our testing and leave. If I had removed my daughter from the seat she would run off and we will be forced to leave the store and not be able to shop! She rudely continued insisting that we both then have to leave as we are making a scene (we were not! She was) and she called security. She said those seats are like the paying seats of a hair salon and are not there for us to try makeup and only for paying customers who are getting their makeup done. I said but I'm a rouge customers. She said it doesn't matter. This was a false statement and I pointed that out because we were guided to sit in that area and try things in the first place! We are two paying rouge customers and one of us gave that seat to my child. We literally needed 5 more minutes to finish but Jess and around 5 or more other staff gathered around us until mall security came! Security were super nice and asked me what happened and I explained and then they spoke to Jess as well and she lied that we had taken paying customer seats and refused to leave and instead made a scene. We did not. I would like Sephora to look at video footage of what happened on December 30th at 6pm and speak to the two security men who same as they witnessed that Jess covered her name tag refused to give me her name and loudly told me that she "knows the kind of person I am". She gathered other staff and spoke in front of many customers who were around and could hear and thought the security would be escorting us out as she wanted. When security realized we had not done anything wrong they did not want to escort us out and said they can see that we are Not making a scene and can continue shopping if we want. She used other staff to side with her as all of this was happening employees were standing with her and they talked and were staring at us like we had committed a crime! This was such a strange experience I am so disappointed and my five year old is still in shock and terrified at what happened and the "police" that came for us. She was devastated. She cried when we left the store and repeatedly asked me why Sephora was so rude to us. Is this what Sephora wants customers to feel? I truly doubt it.
