  • I stayed here this weekend with my boyfriend and 3 friends (hi, Katie G!) for a college reunion trip to Vegas. For the price we paid ($180 with a discount from our group on a weekend night, split 5 ways), I would love to stay here again. But would I pay $200+ a night to stay here, even if I could afford it? Doubtful, when the MGM Grand is less than half that and is pretty much just as good in my opinion. There are two things that really made Caesar's awesome. First, I have asthma and am very sensitive to cigarette smoke, which is always somewhat of a concern when I go to Vegas, and I think Caesar's is the least smokey hotel I've been in, save for the Wynn. Our room was non-smoking on a non-smoking floor, and there was really no hint of cigarette smoke on the floor at all, or in the lobby or common areas of hotel. Smoking is allowed on the casino floor, obviously, but it was definitely one of the least smokey casino floors I've seen in Vegas, although I'm not sure why (clientele is less inclined to smoke? better air filtration systems?). But whatever the reason I was, I was really not at all bothered by smoke here all, which is saying something. Second, the pool complex is amazing. At least 6 different pools of varying temperature, which is really nice - you can jump into the cold pool on a hot day and then switch to a hot pool when you get too chilly. One of the pools is almost completely shaded, another pool has swim up tables, and then there is the special Venus pool (cover charge, although passes are easy to obtain) that has European style swimming. Definitely one of the nicest pool areas of any hotel on the strip. They were also surprisingly lax about asking for key cards (we went in several times without showing it), so if you're staying elsewhere you may be able to swim here. Obviously the location is perfect (my belief is Caesar's defines the center of the strip), and they were also able to give us a complimentary late check-out (1 pm), which was nice and which we took full advantage of. However, other than those positives, I feel like the hotel has nothing on the MGM Grand or other hotels that are much more mid-range. The room itself was completely unspectacular, save for the bathroom, which was very large and had a nice jacuzzi. They promised us 2 queens or 1 king, but we got 2 double beds. The view from the room was crap. Food options in the hotel are ridiculously over-priced and don't cater to the younger crowd- there are no cheapy places to grab a coffee or a pastry or some greasy fast food, like McDonalds or Starbucks or anything similar. Other than $$$ and $$$$ sit-down restaurants, your only food options are Payard, where you can get a $10 nutella crepe, or the Augustus Cafe, which had $15 eggs for breakfast. We didn't eat a single meal in the hotel, which isn't a big deal, but if you're looking for a really self-contained resort, Caesar's is not it, because you will need to go elsewhere for food. There also isn't really anything to see or do in the hotel, per se, like the ceilings and the garden in the Bellagio, or the lion habitat at the MGM, so its not a good place for families at all. I was also wholly unimpressed with the concierge. I asked him for recommendations for cheap Mexican for me and my friends, and he recommended 4 places - two of which were not at all cheap (Dos Caminos and Diego), despite the fact that I specifically told him I wanted places where the entrees were under $20. He was also very snooty and acted like I didn't belong in the hotel at all - after spending nearly 15 minutes talking to the elegant, well-dressed elderly couple in front of me, he summarily dismissed my request in one sentence, and I had to push him to get more details and more options, because I didn't want just one recommendation. He also didn't offer to make us a reservation anywhere. Maybe it was because of my age, maybe because I went straight from the pool in a swim cover-up, but truly excellent hotels wait on their guests hand and foot no matter what they look like.
