This place is nearly sacred to me.
"The Spit" is probably in my top 5 favourite things I love about living in Toronto, especially the East End where getting here takes a short bike ride downhill. It feels like you are getting out of the city and into nature--even though the city is just across the water.
I used to come down here often when it was time to clear my head. It is a very peaceful place. It is great for biking or walking. I think all of my cameras and lenses have been here at least once.
It is even where I first met an ex after we connected on OKC.
Not that you often see something worth photographing--at least not after you've been here a dozen times. While there is no shortage of common fowl here (geese), I have rarely seen anything that would win an award with the Toronto Camera Club.
I'm not keen on those speed bumps--when there is nobody around, bikers should be able to get going. We don't have any good place where we can safely ride fast.
It always saddens me to see trash here. Death to litterbugs. There, I said it.
People are generally good about keeping their dogs out. I love the fact that there is finally one place in the city where dogs are NOT thought of as people. This is a wildlife sanctuary of sorts, NOT A PARK--despite the misnaming. Please save your picnics and pets and whatever else for Woodbine. I love that this place is still somewhat rugged--no washrooms, no shade, no nothing.
Look out for the rabbits in the early summer evenings.
And please break for the snakes!! (I have actually see a couple)
Highly recommended!
