  • I've been used car shopping for a few weeks now. When I looked into what Madison had to offer I found Russ Darrow here on Yelp. I went to their website directly from here. Says right at the top of the page Lancaster Dr in Madison and all that. I looked through their used car inventory. I thought I had hit the jack pot. There were so many options for the type of vehicle I was looking for: a sedan for around $5,000 or less, with not too many miles on it. I had to become picky, because there were just so many options. Each had tons of information, all the stats, Carfax repots, etc. Each and every one of them saying Location: 3502 Lancaster Dr, Madison, WI 53718. The night before our hour and half drive in to Madison, I researched my findings, for hours. I had narrowed a list of 50 down to 11, down to 6. I really thought I was gonna have success here, because I had so many brands and types of cars to choose from, all around my budget. When I got there, I was immediately greeted by a trainee, and then we joined another staff member; we sat down and I showed them my list and notes. The guy in charge kinda hesitated, and then started to look through his database. He informed me that they have several locations, and that none of those cars were in Madison; they were all in Milwaukee. He said that you have to go to their specific website to see their stock. I pulled out my laptop, which still had the web browser up, with a dozen separate tabs with all the cars. I said this was the website linked to THEIR yelp account, and it distinctly says their address right at the top. I showed him how on each car profile is says: "This vehicle is located: 3502 Lancaster Dr, Madison, WI 53718." My dad told me later that his hesitation at that moment was priceless. He apologized, and said that he would send an e-mail to corporate to get the problem addressed. They only had ONE option that fit my price range, ONE. A 2002 Honda Civic. He went on about how he loves his Honda and that his is over 200,000 miles and still running great. I was pretty much stunned; this scenario had not even crossed my mind. The whole reason why I had chosen to go to that location was due to their huge selection. And this system updates too. Over time, some of the cars in my search had become SOLD. I humored him and looked at the car, but going from several dozen options, down to just one, that is 15 years old, I just didn't know to even respond. Felt pretty defeated. So many hours, wasted. Plus the car was in crappy condition, looked better in the pictures. Later on my dad and I were discussing it, I was still in such disbelief. I expected a few of the options to be gone, and for some to not look as great close up.. But ALL OF THEM NOT BEING THERE.. We didn't think it was a mistake or oversight, they had their website was set up that way on purpose. Aside from being shady, it's kinda stupid if you ask me. Someone looking at $5,000 cars isn't all of a sudden gonna buy a $12,000 one, just because they already are there at the dealership.. He had suggested we could go check out the ones in Milwaukee. I replied, "Sure, then we can be 4 hours from our house instead of an hour and a half.." Pretty interesting business model you guys have.. Also, the tone they had about the condition of the cars from Milwaukee, with "those people," also really turned us off as well. I guess because they aren't all white people wearing camo every day, all these cars must just be all full of crack, or something.. Bad form. I guess I'll always call first from now on, to make sure car is in fact there before coming. Seems obvious I know, but I guess I figured that the 50+ vehicles indicated to be there, would be there.
