  • My wife and I have stayed at this hotel 6 or 7 times over the past 10 years. We actually stayed the night it opened. Ten years later, the building itself is in decent condition, but the short-lived items like carpet, and furniture are unkept. Suffice it to say, the floors are filthy dirty here, and in need of steam cleaning. A brand new pair of white socks were a dark gray within an hour of walking around the room with no shoes. Aside from cleanliness, there were a number of significant issues we had with the hotel this time around. Service was deplorable starting with the fact that I was not only charged twice for the same room, but I was charged the wrong amount. Hotel management told me it would take 3-5 days for a refund. Unacceptable! The TV in the room didn't work at least for some time each of the 4 days we were there. The maintenance crew was in the room 3 times to fix the TV, but no matter what they did, it ultimately would become non-operational again. Housekeeping never showed up two of the days to "clean" the room, and we had to call each time to get them there in the evening. The complimentary "high speed" internet was anything but High Speed. As a matter of fact, it was a horrible connection overall. But, according to the hotel, a higher speed service was available at $6.95/day. Surprise! As if that wasn't bad enough, it turned out to be $6.95 per connected device, not for up to 6 devices as advertised. I've traveled on business quite a bit in my life, and at least in the recent past, that's the first I've heard of a paid upgrade in internet service availability. Sorry to say that I purchased the upgraded service, and that the speed was no different the "included" service offered. Stay with the service included and save your money. Lastly, and probably most importantly, the hotel was overrun with Steelers fans in town to see the Steeler's home game against the Cardinals. That's not necessarily a bad thing because while we were in Pittsburgh, we also went to this game. However, the way that the hotel catered to the fans was absolutely unacceptable. Parking for the hotel is limited from the start, and the configuration of the parking lot is such that one end of it is roped off from an adjoining public pay lot. The drive aisles dead end against the roped section making navigation thru the parking area difficult on a normal day. On Steelers game days, hotel patrons that are Steelers fans set up large tailgating spreads in the hotel lot, and what was already difficult to navigate, became nearly impossible to navigate. To complicate things even more, the tailgaters in traditional fashion were drinking, most drinking excessively. Between staggering drink fans, their tailgate party tables set up in the parking lot, and those playing football in the drive aisles, the parking lot became everything it was never meant to be. There were open containers in and out of the hotel lobby from 7:00 am to close to midnight. Fan walking freely in and out of the building drinking alcohol. I can drink with the best of them, but tailgaters walking in and out of the lobby of the hotel, some using the rest room on the lobby level, is over the top. The game was at 1:00 pm, and the tailgating started at 7:00 am, maybe earlier, and continued on well past midnight with loud music, and again, staggering drunk fans meandering through the parking lot. Realizing Steelers fans are a big source of business for this hotel, management is undoubtedly in a tough position with crowd control. However, they should still be able to cater to these fans and not permit partying in the parking area for the hotel cars - BTW......a parking area that hotel guests are charged $25 per car per night to park their cars. Instead, management let the partiers rant and slur on for hours and do whatever they wanted including permitting a large crowd on the Saturday evening before the game to gather in the lobby area (where breakfast is served) around a TV set with open bottles of tequila and whiskey. I think you get the point. Unfortunately, the hotel staff did not. Marriott is going to hear this same complaint, though I'm not sure they'll care. My advice would be to stay away from this hotel unless you're in town to see a sporting event. Even then, I'd stay away if you have children with you or are averse to not receiving the amenities you're promised with your fee because others in the hotel take over the facility. This is a shame, this hotel was easily 5-star accommodation in its class just a few years ago. Perhaps a new operator has taken over? Regardless, the quality of this hotel has fallen significantly - like 4 stars in rating. For the price, particularly on a sporting event weekend ($299/night plus parking and tax), you can find better accommodations in a different area.
