  • Desert Eagle is a pretty chill Mesa brewery. A couple of friends had recommended this place, which was easy walking distance from the Mesa Marriott and just a hop (no pun intended) off the new light rail line slated to open in the next few months. My first impression was that the place was nearly empty. I'm not sure why this was the case, because the beer was damn good! I ordered a flight of premium samples for $10 which my buddy covered (thanks Rob N.) This bought me five good size samples of my choice, which were: (1) Pumpkin Dukel - this is full of spice and a wonderful dark amber. I wanted more! (2) Gentleman Porter - a full-bodied and mellow brew very dark brown in color. Tasty! (3) Black Talon Russian Imperial Stout - My favorite. jet-black and heady with undertones of coffee, chocolate, and spice. (4) Baja Pilsner - a very light and refreshing brew, but a bit too hoppy for me. Note that I avoided the IPA's, as I am not a fan of beers so hoppy that you cannot enjoy them. (5) Black Cherry Blonde - I liked this, although I am not a huge fan of blondes. But I needed to round out the flight and wanted something moderately light. It ended up being pretty good! This was a great way to sample some of Desert Eagles fine brews. They had several more that I didn't have an opportunity to try, but I will be back to taste the others, plus any new beers they bring onboard. All in all, I applaud the Desert Eagle Brewing Company for having the courage to try some different brews here in Arizona, and not restricting their seasonal rotation to the "safe" choices.
