| - When I called Sabrina at Mr. Antenna, I was skeptical that any antenna could pick up Phoenix TV signals in the remote, geographically challenged area in which we live. I had tried many of the best interior antennas without success. Mr. Antenna was my only remaining hope.
I am happy to say that they came through with flying colors. When I first called, Sabrina patiently answered my many questions and assured me that Mr. Antenna had successfully installed many exterior TV antennas within a mile or two of my house. Then she scheduled an appointment for her technician, Vince, to install the antenna. He arrived first thing the next morning. I was amazed.
Vince was friendly and very efficient, finishing the installation in under an hour. While working, he patiently answered my additional questions. It was clear that he knew what he was doing. He was kind enough to minimize the disruption to my wife, who was sleeping in one of the rooms in which he needed to connect a TV to the antenna cable. By the time he was done, we had 45 channels on two TVs. He said we would have been able to pick up many more channels had we lived closer to the TV towers, but 45 is far better than zero.
Today I was happily watching "Match Game" on the channel that shows reruns of old game shows. Remember Gene Rayburn? And Charles Nelson Reilly? May they rest in peace in game show heaven.
I would like to address some of the negative comments left by other reviewers. I can speak only from my own experience, so I don't intend to discount anything they said. Some reviewers said they were charged extra for custom work. In my case, there were no charges beyond the basic installation fee and sales tax. In fact, when Sabrina saw that a $35.00 trip charge had been added to the bill, she called to tell me that she would waive the charge because it had not been part of her original quote. I felt that was generous because the installer had to drive quite a distance to get to our house. Yes, I would have had to pay $100.00 more if Vince had needed to crawl into the attic. Fortunately, he didn't need to do so.
Another reviewer expressed concern about the fee charged for paying by credit card instead of by check. She said she was quoted a 10 percent surcharge. I have no reason to doubt that this may have been true at the time, but I was quoted five percent. This is probably still a significant markup over the percentage fee that the merchant credit card provider charges Mr. Antenna. But any business has the right to charge a fee for credit card payments or not accept them at all. Also, Sabrina clearly disclosed the fee during our initial phone conversation, and Vince mentioned it again after he arrived. No one pressured me to pay by credit card. If anything, they encouraged me to pay by check. I chose to pay by credit card and pay the extra fee of my own free will. And I'm a determinist.
Some reviewers said that Sabrina had not been sufficiently responsive to their concerns. I didn't have any concerns with the installation, so I can't address how responsive she would have been if I had. I can say that she answered my first call right away and returned a subsequent voice message within a few minutes. Also, she waived the trip charge even though I hadn't asked her to do so.
One reviewer mentioned that the settings on her entertainment system were jacked after the installer left. Mine were too. But then they were equally jacked, if not more so, before he arrived. I have a way of jacking up electronic devices. I'm also good at creating a hopeless mishmash of cords that would take many hours to untangle.
Before calling Mr. Antenna, I searched other review sites in addition to Yelp. I hesitate to mention this because I no longer remember the site and cannot find the review, but I am pretty sure that someone alleged that Mr. Antenna was either paying people or offering them incentives to write positive online reviews. I hope my memory is wrong, but for the record, no one paid me for this review or even suggested that I leave one. And I have left my share of one- or two-star reviews for businesses that I felt deserved it.
Count me among the happy Mr. Antenna customers. Should you choose to do business with Mr. Antenna, I hope your experience is as good as mine was.
