This was our first time attending the Tempe Tour de Fat & it was a huge disappointment. We payed $20 to get in bit stayed less than an hour. It was so lame that we decided to go elsewhere. Especially if you have kids don't bother- we had read there was a kids area and that it was family friendly, but there was nothing for kids to do. They had a tent that was supposed to have shows, like yo yo shows and stuff, but we got there 10 minutes before a show and it was already full. The tent was insanely tiny for the size of the crowd and lines started forming for the next event way in advance- so people were standing in 100 degree weather in the sun waiting to get in for 30+ minutes. Why not have an open stage? There was also very little shade and no cool water. The "kids area 51" was an absolute joke. They fenced off a small area of grass that was muddy and swampy from irrigation and then threw down some cones and a tiny ramp with ONE small balance bike. I read that over 10,000 people attended last year- only one bike for kids to ride in the kid area? They had a corral with artistic bikes to ride that looked cool, BUT you had to have a helmet with you- we didnt know that, it wasnt stated anywhere in the registration information, so we didnt bring them. None if the volunteers seemed to know what was going on- we asked 4 different volunteers where the kids area was and even the girl under the "information tent" had no clue. We feel totally ripped off by New Belgium and won't be back, I can understand the positive reviews when this was a free event, but at $10 a ticket it just wasn't worth it at all.
