  • This place annoys me A LOT. I recently brought in a pair of Prada leather tennis shoes that had never been worn, were 1-year-old and originally cost $600. They told me they were stylistically out of date. No. I work for a huge fashion company and they weren't out of date, they were just shoes that young urban fashionistas wear. The same day, I took them to The Avalon and they couldn't wait to buy them from me. If you just can't get enough of Anne Taylor Loft and Brighton and Chicos and Cache, you should go here. Basically, this store advertises that it's the more fashionable, sophisticated version of Plato's Closet. In fact, it's Plato's "Sister" store. Yet, I find way more fashionable threads in Plato's on the norm. My one great find here, a Sabrina Dehoff neon cord bracelet from Anthro that retailed for $200, I got for $6. They had no idea. Which should tell you everything you need to know about what they buy and know about fashion and designers other than designers that are known by everyone and mall brands. I've now sold to them 3 times and brought them designer pieces by Tori Burch, Kate Spade, Salvatore Ferragamo, Norma Kamali, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Prada, etc., and high-end mall brands like Lilly Pulitzer, Free People, J. Crew, Pendleton, Benetton, etc., and I think I've been offered app. $30 total each trip. Also, as someone who buys and sells designer merch from here to NYC, they price their clothes extremely low and the percentage is less or equal to all other buy-to-resell shops. Plus, the wait is ridiculously long. If you're fashionable and love higher end fashion, I wouldn't sell here. And, you won't find much to buy either. I definitely recommend shopping around or selling online. **Note** After writing this review, the owner of the store contacted me and asked that I never return. It was implied that this review was a personal attack on the business because they didn't take my items. As I have both sold multiple times (and many of my items were taken each time) and bought, I don't see how this argument is logical. I would never "bash" a business of any kind for any reason. And, if I did, I'm pretty sure I'd only give them one star instead of two. Clothes Mentor advertises that they specialize in fresh, modern designer fashion and, as it pertains to this branch, I simply don't agree. That is my opinion. Considering most of the reviews say the exact same thing, I'd say the correct course of action is to admit there is a problem and fix it rather than contact every customer who has had a negative experience and insult them.
