i was just at the mod club last night for a brmc show... it reminded me how awful the sound here is. and the lights. plus it's kind of hard to enjoy a show while the vent system above is leaking.
i'd still say that if a band you like is playing here, it's a very intimate venue and probably worth the ticket price, but you will not be able to hear a word they say or a note they play-- it all just becomes a loud jumble of noise.
the lighting is always very predictable. i'm not sure if the band decides this or not, but every show i've been to here has the same lighting setup-- strobes, three colours of overhead lights, and a grid in the back with red/blue/white. they pretty much just flash the various lights on and off, trying to keep the beat, but it ends up looking very contrived
and merch is a full 50%+ more than what you'd expect to pay at any venue in the states. i've been going to shows in nyc my whole life and have never seen band t-shirts for $40. it really sucks that they think they can take advantage because everything else is more expensive here.
