I like this pub with some reservations. It's a downtown staple with a huge footprint, they have a billiards room, a dining area and a basement. They have a pretty long list of brewed-on-site beers; most of them are mediocre. The food suffers the same fate; extensive menu but nothing is terribly inspired. The best thing the Dane has going for it is the outdoor seating; it's a beautiful courtyard surrounded on all sides by a two-story tall brick wall. It creates a quiet and pastoral setting which is nearly impossible to find anywhere else in downtown Madison.
