If I could give NO stars, that wouldn't be enough.
I had a partial nephrectomy on July 6th to remove a cancerous tumor in my kidney at a different hospital. I was released to go home on July 8th and ended up running a very high fever that evening. We called my surgeon who advised to get to an emergency room and admitted immediately and he would order scans.
We chose, unfortunately, to do this at Mercy Gilbert as it was closest to us. This was by far the worst decision I have ever made.
I waited two hours in the ER in a chair in the hallway. I was asked several times if I needed anything for my kidney pain and nothing was ever given to me even though I said yes each time.
I was finally taken to a room in the ER and treated fairly OK but nothing was being done to bring down my fever.
Around midnight they decided I had a "touch of post op pneumonia" and was admitted to be administered antibiotics.
I was kept there through 7/10 and only released when I argued with two doctors and said I was going to check myself out. My surgeon had come in to see me at 5:30 that morning and told me (& charted this information) that he and two of the other hospital doctors had agreed that it was pneumonia and I would be sent home that day with an oral antibiotic, there was no longer a need to keep me there. The two doctors from the hospital told me that my surgeon never spoke with them and had no right to tell me I could go home. One of them said "if you start coughing and become short of breath again, you will have to come back"... I advised I had never once even had those symptoms. The ONLY reason I went there was due to a fever.
The internist that had to sign my discharge papers even had the nerve to look me in the face and say that she didn't believe that I even had kidney cancer. Excuse me? I wasn't there for her opinions on my previous surgery / diagnosis as she knew nothing about it. When I started to argue back at her, she held up her hand and said she would talk to my husband from that point on.
It wasn't even until after I asked the doctors if they communicate around there and he read the notes in my chart (because my surgeon charted everything we discussed) that they agreed to let me go...
I should have also taken pictures of the so called food they tried to get me to eat. I am vegan and deathly allergic to mushrooms. Every meal was loaded with a meat and dairy and three of the meals had mushrooms right on top. I had not only told them of my dietary restrictions from the time I got there, but the nurse even put it on my board!
This facility is a very sorry excuse for healthcare and the hospital doctors are very rude and treat patients with little to no respect.
I seriously hope I never need another hospital visit but if I do, we are making the drive back to Banner.
