| - I just left an estate sale that made me angry beyond belief with the MOST ridiculous prices. Now, i am never one to complain about Goodwill or Savers upping their prices. If you can get it, GET IT! But this was a whole different level.
Let me set the scene. Sale started at 8, so i got up early, had breakfast and headed out. While driving, had to contend with rush hour and construction which made it worse. Got to the sale, and because the house was facing east, the morning Las Vegas sun was burning our brains while we all waited in line for a JPS Estate Liquidation, LLC sale. Before i go further, I like JPS sales and the people who work for and run them. Always pleasant and usually good stuff at correct prices. This was an unusual sale because they people who hired JPS used to have a store in the mall called Nothing But Skulls. They decided to call it quits and leave Las Vegas, and this was the rest of their stock. I saw all these holiday blowups and village pieces in the ad and thought those would be perfect for Amazon FBA.
At the stroke of 8, they let the first 20 people in and i was #30, so i had to wait until 10 people left. Within 2 minutes, the first 5 people left. Then 2 more and then quickly, 2 more. I have NEVER seen so many people leave an estate sale so quick. They all said the same thing "Don't waste your time, it's retail pricing" and they were all emptied handed. Think about that. Have you EVER been to an estate sale where the first 10 people didn't buy 1 thing?????. I did not heed their warning because a lot of time people exaggerate what they think is retail. I finally got my turn to go in and guess what? it was all RETAIL PRICING. It's the same price they had on the items in their store. Not one penny of discount. The big blowups were $150-$175 and the village pieces were $50-$125
All the items in the house can easily be found at Walmart, Target, Michaels, Joann's, Kmart, etc. Why in the world would i go through getting up early, fighting rush hour traffic, and standing in line to just pay retail in a cramped house? I could but every one of those items from the comfort of my couch on Amazon. Nowhere in the ad did it mention that you were basically coming to a retail store. And they have sooooooo much stuff, they are doing this 2 weekends in a row. They have 2 storage units to empty. But, they won't have sold anything so there will be no place to put anything new.
I've been to 1000s of garage and estate sales. Not everyone's a winner. But this was such a loser and a waste of time, i tried to tell the employees of JPS and then the boss lady herself. They said "This is what the client wanted". To which i replied "This will be bad for you and your business. These clients are moving away from Las Vegas and no one will care about them or even know them. But you are still in business and will continue to have estate sales. The people who came to this sale will think twice before going to another JPS sale. You wasted A LOT of people's time and money today by not being more forthcoming in your ad or by leading your client to discount the items somewhat."
Like I said, i ain't mad at anyone for trying to get top dollar, but don't trick me into going to a sale by not being forthcoming on the pricing.
So they finally saw the error of their ways and everything was changed to at least 50% off the next day, if not more. Basically saying Screw You to all of us who showed up on Thursday. And they called me a ridiculous reseller on their Facebook page. So they sure aren't doing themselves any favors. I come to shop and spend money, and i do NOT like my time wasted. They keep saying they had to show the client that this wouldn't work. What a stupid way to do buisness, harming your name and reputation, just to show your client it won't work and using your Thursday customers as guinea pigs. Don't ever waste your time going to a JPS sale, they do not value their customers. And when i brought these issues up to JPS on their FB page, they just deleted all mine and other unhappy buyers comments. Shady, shady, shady
