Came here with the intention of finding a light, satisfying dessert after a late lunch of tapas at Patria. I've heard some nice things about the hot chocolate here, so since it was so close, I decided to stop by.
If you're thinking of hitting up a nearby Starbucks, DON'T. Yes, I know it's not exactly cheap - $4.43 for a 10oz. cup, but trust me, less is definitely more.
Nothing artificial and as decadent as a molten truffle, the boldly spiced Mayan hot chocolate made with water (not milk) will explain why the Aztecs called it the Drink of the Gods.
I also tried the Douglas fir truffle - $2.00, a handsome slanted cone shape whose shell is tempered perfectly to achieve a lacquered sheen and clean snap once bitten into. The dark chocolate ganache center infused with distinctly coniferous notes is smooth and laced with a tough of acid which reminded me of resin.
A little pricy, so will have to remain a splurge location for the time being.
