| - My fiance has been going here since October 2014. After several medical issues over the last couple of years as well as prescription medications that have wreaked havoc on her mouth, she was left with a lot of pain and in need of some good dental care. She first went to another dentist who was offering a special for $59 for exam, x-rays, and a cleaning. In one appointment, this dentist did a full exam and provided her with an estimate for all the work she'd need done. Several crowns needed to be replaced, a few root canals, and some fillings needed to be done. He gave her a print out for a whopping $22,000 worth of work! We were seriously in shock. We thought for sure this dentist was a crook, was suggesting work that didn't need to be done, or at the very least was WAY over priced. With a price like that, you'd expect someone with meth mouth! Her teeth are actually very nice looking- just issues in the back and old dental work that needed replacing.
Unsure as of where to find a reasonably priced dentist that could be trusted to not over charge, we thought about the dental school. It was to our understanding that since students were doing the work that it would be heavily discounted, not to mention that there should be no issues of suggesting work that didn't need to be done. She first called in May. They put her on a waiting list. She did not get her first appointment until October.
I took her to the first appointment which lasted TWO hours- in that two hours no actual work was done- just x-rays. The student that she got decided that the work she needed to be done was too complicated for him so she'd need to see another student with higher class standing. Several weeks later she saw that student. More exams- by the student, the teachers, more x-rays etc. She had to then make another appointment to go in for molds of the teeth to be made and more exams. The student told her that she'd prepare and estimate after that and call her. About a month later (by now it's January), the student called and asked that she do her a "favor". If she could come in the following week at 5pm (after they were closing?) for her professor to have another look in her mouth, she felt as though some of the things she needed done would qualify for her to use as final exam assignments and if they did she could have that work done for free. She went all the way down there, the professor looked over her records and in her mouth for 5 minutes and said that NONE of the issues she had qualified for exams. After the professor left, the student apologized for wasting her time and thanked her for "helping" and promised that she'd get the estimate put together for everything that she'd need done if she wanted to wait there for it. She waited for a while and the student comes back in with an estimate sheet. After 4 appointments and NO work whatsoever (not even a simple cleaning yet) she gets an estimate of..............$20,500!!!!!!!! The student says, "well you don't have to pay it all at once- only as you have each procedure done". To top it off, after that "favor" we received a $40 bill in the mail for that appointment- we were never told there'd be a charge and didn't expect there to be since she was having nothing done.
Really?! $20K to have an inexperienced student work on your teeth? 4 appointments just to get an estimate of what needs to be done? What is the point of going to a dental school if they do not offer any sort of a discount over a private dentist? Why would anyone want to wait months for an initial appointment, drive over to that crappy part of town, wait hours upon hours, schedule multiple appointments over several months just to have students work on you, and then pay almost the same price as an experienced private practice dentist close to home with a nice office and easy scheduling? You'd have to be insane! What a total waste of time (literally months!) and gas!
To sum it up - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!
