| - I was surprised by how much I liked Sir Veza's Taco Garage. While waiting for my connecting flight from SFO to IND, the Sky Harbor airport didn't seem to have many great options. For so many people on that busy day and in such a tiny airport, every food place seemed packed, including this one... but I followed my instincts and stood in line with my colleague.
Ordering took awhile, but everyone who works here is super friendly. I ended up getting the carnitas bowl. I took my box and found some seats at an adjacent gate since ours was too claustrophobic. With low expectations for airport food, I opened my box and my eyes widened. The juicy carnitas looked so delicious, smothered with vegetables and tons of sour cream, which is my Mexican food weakness. I inhaled the whole thing in less time than it took me to stand in line and get it.
Though I wouldn't pick this Mexican spot over ones in San Francisco or San Diego, it definitely exceeded my expectations for airport food. Sir Veza's also has a bar area, though it was too crowded to sit there. If I had more time, and if it wasn't first thing in the morning, I would have loved to enjoy a margarita during that layover.
