  • I will never rent from Decent Car and Truck Rentals again. Here are a few reasons why. I rent cars a lot. I don't own one, living in Toronto, but my job requires that I meet with clients often and accordingly I often rent to meet my needs. Typically, my go to rental agencies are Enterprise and National- I've never had a problem with either (save maybe for a long line here and there). This weekend I wanted a car for Sunday, and unfortunately, most rental places don't rent on sundays, or at least don't offer drop off. Not wanting to be charged for 2 days, I took a chance and booked with these guys, who I've seen in the neighbourhood. I was able to rent what should have been an "economy car" from "6pm" saturday until 6pm sunday. I expected that an economy car would be a two door, small car, maybe with a hatchback that would be good on gas. I booked the reservation last week by Wednesday. On Friday, I received not one but two calls confirming that I would be picking up a car. One confirmation call is normal. Two was weird. On Saturday, I received a third confirmation call ensuring I would pick up the car. The voice on the other end urged that I arrive before 6 to get the car. During this call, I asked the voice why I was receiving a third call in 2 days, when I had already confirmed twice. I got a snippy response. Strike 1. Not wanting to be late, I arrived at 5:45, and was met presumably by the voice. As I walked up the driveway, I saw "the voice" (as it later turned out) on a phone, so I started walking inside. He yelled to me "are you picking up a car at 6?" Surprised, because he was on the phone and I figured he would wait before getting off to greet a NEW customer, I responded "yes". Okay, should be here in 10 minutes, he says. We proceed to the counter and he has me sign the standard forms. I notice that the form reads 5:56 check out, return at 6pm . So I say to him, "its 6 now, I don't see a car, I'd like to return it 24 hours after pick up" "sure." he says. "No charge" (as if there should be a charge because the car is late. He keeps calling the driver, and after each call says "10 minute, 10 minutes". The car arrives at 6:30. Thirty minutes late and after I had been specifically been advised to be on time. Strike 2. Car is NOT an economy. It was a nice car, new, no scratches, BUT it was a four door car which guzzled gas. To make things worse, I received the car with 2 bars of gas. This was read by the attendant as a 1/4 tank (not even close), and I was advised to return with 1/4. Too angry about everything else when this happened I just nodded and drove away. Strike 3. While I had the car on Sunday, I was called to be reminded to return the call that evening (as if I would forget). This was strike 4. I have been renting cars 1/week at least for the last 3 years. I have NEVER been called during a rental to be reminded to return it, especially when that rental is on a weekend to RUN ERRANDS. I returned the car, got a ride home, and said so long to this awful experience. Should I have mentioned that when I picked the car up on Saturday I witnessed a couple of unhappy customers being charged for a car size they didn't want? Yeah, that happened. Never again. I will gladly pay more not to have to deal with these guys.
