| - After a long drive from WV, we got to CarMax to sell my girlfriend's car. I have had quite a few people tell me of the smooth experience they have had buying and selling cars at CarMax, so I was hopeful we would get that same experience.
I had called to make an appointment over a month ago, and called that morning to confirm my appointment. They had no record of me in the system, so they said they would make a new appointment on the phone. When we got there, the sales rep still didn't have us in the system. Fortunately, it was late in the evening (7:45pm on a Friday) so we didn't have to wait and got attended to right away. So I would recommend coming during off hours which are week day nights.
Anyhow, we were sat down and asked because questions about the car, then told they would appraise the car within 30 minutes. They have a lounge with a couple tvs and snack machines for you to wait, along with monitors showing your progress.
Just around 30 minutes we were called in for the appraisal, which came in under the Kelly blue book value for a trade-in. There was significant cosmetic damage to the vehicle, so that was something that would have hurt it's value, so the appraisal was fair.
We then are directed to a sales office to sell the car. It is just a counter with a few nice ladies that take the appraisal letter, your title, ID and registration. They take about 30 minutes to do their paperwork while you wait in the lounge and then you are done.
All around it is a smooth experience with no hassle. Took about an hour and 15 minutes to get a check for the car. I would definitely sell a car with them again for the no nonsense approach, and friendly demeanor of all their staff.
