| - This is a must-do for anyone visiting Pittsburgh! It's a very cool piece of history and allows a really unique view of the city. You can park near Station Square (an attraction I would suggest you skip if you are from out of town--- chain restaurants you can visit anywhere and not much else to offer) and take the incline up to Mount Washington. Besides an incredibly breathtaking view of the city with some of the best photo ops, you are also just a short walk from Shiloh Street which has a few local restaurants, an ice cream shop, coffee shop and more.
If you do not have a Connect Card (Pittsburgh Port Authority transit card), you will either need exact change to ride or use the transit machine in the lobby to get a round trip pass. There are no attendants at the bottom of the incline, only at the top.
*WARNING: To those of you that have seen the incline on lists of "Best date spots" or "Most romantic spots" in Pittsburgh:
It has POTENTIAL to be romantic, that's for sure. But if you take a ride during a busy time, it's anything but romantic. If you are lucky enough to get the car all to yourselves during a nice evening crawl up the mountainside, it could be a really romantic experience. BUT, in my experience, it's more likely that you will share the train car with multiple other groups of people and very likely that some of them will be families with loud children. THAT is not very romantic. If you want to get some smooches and snuggles in, I suggest you take it later in the evening and off peak riding time. I guarantee you it is always worth the wait to hang around until you can get a car to yourself!
