  • I really wanted to like this stadium. I mean, Tempe, although a suburb of Phoenix, is kind of a college town. I would think they would have better facilities and show more support for their team and bowl game. I was here a few years back for the Insight Bowl to watch my Iowa State Cyclones play the Minnesota Golden Gophers. If you aren't familiar with Iowa State - our fans roll DEEP. You send us to a warm weather city in December/January for a bowl game and you are guaranteed a HUGE turn out. This was no exception. I honestly felt bad for the Gopher fans (what there were of them). The tailgating lots were filled to the brim with Cyclones. Now the stadium, that's a different story. What a shit hole! There are definitely worse places to watch a game, but considering they host a fairly popular bowl game every season, you'd think that they would put more money into the product. I shudder to think that the NFL actually played a Monday Night Football game here when the Chargers were moved out of San Diego due to the wildfires in 2003. This is no place for that. It's like the poor little sister to the Tostito's Bowl in Glendale...time for ASU to get their ish together! Tempe is a great little community. There are obviously hotels and tons of bars and restaurants. Four Peaks Brewing is one of my favorite stops. Oh - pack your sunscreen and expect lots of sun. There isn't any shade (or very little) and it's Arizona, so depending on when you go, it may be hotter than hell. Be prepared.
