| - I couldn't think of a better place to fawn about for my 300th review than Michael Mina at the Bellagio. In fact, I'm genuinely shocked to read some of the less-than-stellar reviews here, because my experience here recently with their holiday tasting menu was unquestionably positive.
The ahi tuna tartare had a good balance of flavor and crunchy texture, having been accented with ancho chili, mint, pine nuts, and sesame oil. The lobster pot pie had several nice chunks of lobster in it, plus the broth was savory and creamy without being overwhelming or excessively salty. Meanwhile, the American wagyu ribeye was incredibly flavorful, soft, and tender. A pumpkin tart provided a refreshing coda to a perfect progression of courses.
The wine list is worth mentioning as the wines that my server Alejandro suggested - the Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen and the Arista pinot noir - paired exceptionally well with the courses on the tasting menu. Alejandro himself was on top of his game, providing flawless service, helpful guidance and context behind the food, and a perfect sense of timing for each course.
A well-deserved treat, and I'm now definitely motivated to try the original Michael Mina in San Francisco.
