  • This review is on USA Moving & Storage and 500 Move which are basically the same company, confusing I know. Before my move from Arizona to California I requested quotes using moving.com. In the time it took from clicking "get quotes" to shutting down my computer, I received a call from Shawn at "500 Move" who asked detailed questions about what all I needed shipped. After going through my extremely specific list of belongings he gave me a quote that turned out to be far cheaper than the other companies that eventually bombarded me day/night with calls. Maybe it was exhaustion from fielding so many calls and emails that I eventually decided to stop answering the unknown callers and give 500 Move a try, without paying much attention to the absolutely horrendous reviews. We set a pick-up date that was 9 days before my actual move, which made me a bit nervous, but Shawn assured me this was normal and there would be no additional charges on the pick-up day. So I began packing and getting things ready. When the movers arrived, they immediately informed me that I would be charged an additional $300 due to my "big" sectional. I told them in advance this couch was impressively large with 4 pieces, an ottoman, and 15 feet in length. After calling Shawn in a state of a shock to remind him of our specific conversation about no additional charges, he told me the mover, Rob, calculated the additional volume cost. I couldn't believe it, standing before me in my own home was a mathematical moving genius that could precisely calculate the additional charge in under 10 seconds upon entry without seeing the remaining items. Frustrated that my "big" couch alone was adding 18% more and unable to wrap my head around their proprietary calculation, we walked upstairs and went through the other items. The paintings would cost more to box so I opted for wrapping vs boxing. Rob told me that my very minimalist platform bed with no box spring and small headboard was also "big" at which point we agreed to disagree for about 10 minutes. In the end, I was not charged anything beyond the $300 and they even took $50 off after many disagreements. Now for the scary part. After signing paperwork and noticing 500 Move was indeed USA Moving & Storage, I began to search all reviews after they left. I went from being a responsible adult to a scared child, even calling my parents to complain that I'd never see my stuff again. Everyone, and I mean everyone, said their stuff arrived damaged, lost, or stolen. The claims process was a complete joke apparently. What was I going to do now? My life was over and on top of that I was already in for $1,100 and convinced this business was a complete scam. So I did what any other person would do, I went to their warehouse where my stuff was being stored prior to delivery and took back my clothes and a couple of other items. The delivery time stated 7-14 business days on average and up to 31 days so I called in advance to get an ETA on delivery day with no success. I was getting close to move-in day for my new place in California and even closer to seeking professional help for panic attacks. Might as well start shopping for all new stuff and listing out the many state & federal moving associations to file reports with I thought. But, to my surprise, I received a call the day before my move that said "we have great news" and I became absolutely speechless when they said they'll be there on my move-in day...before my arrival time even. So 2am rolls around and I'm driving to California to beat my own movers. They show up about an hour late (completely fine) and I'm assuming they won't lift a finger until I pay them $700 in cash on the remaining balance based on reviews. These guys didn't ask for money. They let me see my stuff, moved it all into my new place, set everything up, took care of the trash, and I practically had to remind them I still had their money. Absolutely nothing was broken or damaged, so I tipped them an extra $40 and thought to myself, I need to give them a positive review. 4 stars because I indeed was charged an additional $250 but that was still lower in total than all other places who probably would have charged extra as well. They pulled through, on time and intact, despite the terrible reviews. Give them a try, just be sure to detail your items and possibly provide photos to eliminate future headaches. After all, they're going based on what you say over the phone.
