This is one of the oldest hindu temples in the United States and also one of the biggest and well known. My family and I have been coming to this temple for 30 years, and watched as it has grown and expanded to meet the demands of the Hindu population in the area and around the US that rely on it.
The location is quite beautiful year round with a very peaceful perch in the hills of Monroeville. Parking is more than adequate for most days, although this fourth of July weekend is very busy (as are most holidays). The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful and the prices for the pujas are extremely reasonable.
Although they have brought on newer priests, there are many who have been there for decades and are very skilled at making the experience memorable and enjoyable.
The food is truly exceptional, especially the Tamarind Rice as Ashwin and Chaya mentioned. People will come from quite far to enjoy the rice and to pray.
Its a great experience and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a peaceful afternoon of prayer and some good food!
