| - After making a Fairmount Bagel stop right after visiting two St. Viateur locations (I know... we ate a lot that morning...), I concluded that, personally, I prefer St. Viateur. Service at Fairmount isn't as friendly or efficient, and the bagels itself weren't as satisfying. Note also that the shop is very small, so when there's a lineup of people, it gets pretty cramped.
We visited on a Sunday morning around 10:15 AM and there was a short line that moved pretty quickly. There's free parking right in front of the shop (but check the signs to make sure that parking is allowed during your time period - some streets in Montreal only allow free street parking during certain times of the day).
We purchased a couple of Sesame Bagels and Chocolate Chip Bagels. Compared to St. Viateur, they're not as chewy, they're a lot softer vs. denser (I preferred the denser texture of St. Viateur), and not as crispy or sweet. These ended up being just average to us, and I think overall, we ended up in the St. Viateur camp by the end of our touristy trip. However, both places are institutions in Montreal so definitely still make the trip here to do your own comparison!
