| - First of all, is it "donuts" or "doughnuts"? I feel most people spell it like the former, while the latter is the formal, proper way of spelling it (weird thinking of this fried, ring of goodness as "formal"). Anyway, feel free to discuss amongst yourselves.
So yes, Greenbush makes THE. BEST. [however you spell the word]. Their old fashioned doughnuts--they have regular or chocolate--are especially divine. They have a wonderful crisp exterior with a tender, cakey interior and pack on just the right amount of sweetness. The apple fritters are amazing, as well. Again, crispy exterior, tender inside with a good amount of cinnamon and apple swirled throughout (though the ones I get at the Farmer's Market may have a *touch* more apples). I'm not a yeast donut fan, but I can definitely scarf down a few of Greenbush's.
I love how they sell so many donuts so quickly--I have never had a stale one in the numerous visits to Greenbush I have made. It makes me sad if I have to leave the shop without the doughnut that I want, but it's comforting knowing that they're not going to be selling me a doughnut that's been sitting there for more than a few hours.
The service can be sketchy and even downright rude at times, but 1) we're only interacting for two minutes at most and 2) I get to go home with a bag (or box or sometimes a very large box) of Greenbush Bakery doughnuts. All is good in the world, if for only a few minutes, no matter how I'm treated.
