| - Seven Saints is one of those restaurants you desperately want to be good. And I suspect it will be eventually. It's high on concept and decor, but sort of mediocre when it comes to delivering the goods. The menu is focused on their "slider" burgers-- about 10 different varieties-- that can be ordered individually, or with salads or soups or sides in multiple configurations. They also feature a large range of salads that can be sampled in the "Triple S" combo. Choose any three of half a salad, a slider, a side or a soup for $9. Seemed a great way to sample the menu... and pretty affordable for the amount of food offered.
On this visit I had the Hawaiian slider with grilled pineapple and peanut sauce that Melissa mentioned in her review. Mine was pretty awful, I must admit. The meat was dry and terribly over-seasoned. I'm not sure if this was an anomaly; the salad-- the Country Fried Chicken Salad-- was delicious, as were the fries-- waffle and sweet potato.
The service was on the amateurish side. We were annoyed by our waitress repeatedly trying to get us to reorder an appetizer that we cancelled because they were out of the sauce... and then had made more. But by the time our third refusal was issued, our food came, thereby proving our point about getting appetizers after entrees. I know. It was as confusing as it sounds.
Final complaint: fountain iced tea. I can't abide by it. Since Seven Saints is trying to go all high-concept with their food, I find it abhorrent that they can't go the distance and brew their tea. It's the summer! No one likes tea from concentrate... especially not people who will pay $3 for a teeny-tiny burger.
We definitely want to try this place again and hope it's a bit better next time. It has a lot of promise.
For lunch including two drinks and two meals, tax and tip, about $25-30. Very reasonably priced, I'd say.
