| - We've eaten several times at Zapatas over the last couple of years and the food has always been consistently great.
The decor leans toward the traditional Mexican restaurant with art, artifacts, and posters reflecting Mexican culture. The effect is warm, welcoming, and it just feels right. The service from our waitress, Jessica, was friendly, fast, and attentive.
In the past we've had the shrimp fajitas and they've always been fresh, hot, and tasty. I've had the biria de chivo (goat braised in beer) several times and enjoyed it immensely, but it's not for the timid, it has a strong taste, but once you add all the condiments it's perfection.
Today we had the toreados con queso, shrimp quesadilla, and the tecala, (chile relleno and green chili pork and bean burrito). The meal started off with chips, beans, and salsa. The beans were addictive and the salsa was smoky and very spicy (kind of strange tasting but I couldn't stop eating it). The toreados were just awesome-cheesy, spicy, and rich. The spice level is not for the heat averse. The shrimp quesadilla was huge, cheesy, and delicious. The chile relleno was rich and satisfying, and the pork was tender and flavorful. My only quibbles were that I asked for all beans on the dish and it came with all rice, but that was quickly corrected, and the burrito was supposed to have beans and didn't which I didn't notice till much later. These minor issues in no way interfered with the enjoyment of the food.
